It's been way too long....

I just looked at this neglected blog and I have to apologize to both of you who might actually follow this blog.  I felt a bit stuck in my photography over the last couple of years.  The funny thing is that I actually had an image published in a book, had a number of images in gallery shows, etc., but I haven't felt particularly inspired.  I decided it is time to simply finish off a project and move along.  The project I finished is some work I've done in California when there on business.  It was all shot with the same camera and on the same two stretches of beach.  All were  printed as lith images....with almost all of them on vintage paper.  I'll leave that for another post.  Now that I've finished the project, I need to figure out what to do with it......

I have appreciated reading your blog.......and your comments. I love lith printing...I dont love how disorganised my life is so I struggle to get to the things I love.......lith is cool in that its a slow process and centers me.
I have all the books and chems and had success but I still havent had the penny drop on the whole expose for highlights thing. Like does that mean I expose more or less. I know dark tones are controlled by when I pull the print.........so just thinking here........exposing for the highlights will mean not over exposing them.......so I can leave the print in the devo for the dark tones to develop.....????

What I do is to pick out the highlights that I just want to register as tone. I expose for those. I tend to print dark and moody so I let my images develop a bit more. A good friend of mine prints very high key images in lith and those are a great example of exposing for the highlights you want. Here are some of her images http://masaefoxeart.com/masae-foxe-art/sandra-masae-kawano/lithprints/. She is an amazing printer.
